It analyzes the essence of the "sustainable development" notion and proposes author’s understanding of this notion. It also outlines and characterizes the problems of marine ecosystems in comparison with the main goals of sustainable development. The article considers theoretical issues concerning main provisions of the Decade as a new foundation for strengthening ocean governance. It also proposes priority measures for solving issues in marine ecosystem management aimed at preservation of the blue resource. Досліджено питання сталого розвитку як основного напряму розвитку суспільства.Проаналізовано сутність дефініції "сталий розвиток" та запропоновано авторське розуміннявизначення. Висвітлені та охарактеризовані проблеми морських екосистем у порівнянні з основнимицілями сталого розвитку. Розглянуто теоретичні питання, що стосуються основних положень"Десятиліття" як нового фундаменту для зміцнення управління океаном. Запропоновано першочерговізаходи для вирішення питань управління морської екосистеми для збереження блакитного ресурсу.
