У статті досліджено історію та походження термінів «роский», «рóссійский» та «словенороский язик» на матеріялі українських пам’яток ХVI–ХVII століття. Доведено, що виникнення саме таких термінів — це не лише народження нового поняття як синтезу двох мов — церковнослов’янської та руської, — але й закріплена в терміні тенденція часу — взорування на книжну, віддалену від загалу культуру, — і водночас нагальна потреба містка до культури загальнонародної. The history and etymology of the terms ‘rosskyi’, ‘rossiiskyi’ and the ‘slovenorosskyi’ language as based on the Ukrainian monuments of 16–17th centuries were researched in this article. It was proved that the appearing of the analyzed terms is not just the birth of new notions in the result of the synthesis of two languages Church Slavonic and Russian, but also it is the time tendency consolidated in the term, which consisted in orientation on the books and distanced from the general public culture, and in the same time it is the urgent need of the general public culture.The history and etymology of the terms ‘rosskyi’, ‘rossiiskyi’ and the ‘slovenorosskyi’ language as based on the Ukrainian monuments of 16–17th centuries were researched in this article.
