Short review of the research performed on the growth technologies as well as physical investigations of the wide band semiconductors of A²B⁶ group and solid solutions on its basis are presented The main results of the investigations of band structure, phonon spectra and spectra of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR ) of Mn²⁺ in CdS, CdSxSe₁₋x are presented Laser generation using ZnxCd₁₋xS , CdSxSe₁₋x, CdSxTe₁₋x single crystals and the magneto optical properties of semi magnetic semiconductors are investigated . The results of electron microscopy studies of the needle and thread like CdS, CdTe and Si single crystals of micron and smaller sizes are discussed .
