In this fairly forgotten reply to German historian Felix Rachfahl — one of the mostvocal critics of Weber’s thesis in “The Protestant Ethics” — Weber further elaborates the central argument of his sociology of religion research program constructing anideal type of inner-worldly rational Protestant asceticism. In the essay Weber underscores the importance of affinity of the bourgeoisie for particular life-style which is critical to the understanding his conceptualization of the genesis of capitalist spirit as the development from romanticism of economic adventures to therational economic conduct of life.
