Critical discourse analysis is the approach to periodical press materialsapplied from ethical point of view when social issues are considered. Itcombines at least three levels of analysis: the analysis of a text, the analysisof discursive practices (writing/ speaking and reading/ listening) used toproduce and reproduce it, and the analysis of a social context influencing it.Unlike a linguistic theory, this type of analysis sets no strict requirements tosyntactic, phonological and linguistic elements of any language. This typeof analysis is concentrated on the details of a text, which are the most important in critical perspective. It starts with stating the genre of a text andthe extent to which this text corresponds to this genre. It enables tounderstand why certain elements are used in this particular text while otherelements are missing. The other specific feature of this type of analysis is itsframing. It refers to the form in which the text is presented and to thestrategy applied by the author. Framing is closely connected with thenotions of foregrounding and backgrounding that is giving some elementsprior role while diminishing the role of other elements thus moving them tothe background. After the genre of a text is determined, a reader startsreading it sentence by sentence finding out their theme and main details.Authors usually place the most important facts to the first place in asentence while withdrawing less important facts to the background of thissentence, which signifies the role they are supposed to play for readers’understanding. The other ways to manipulate readers’ thinking are omittingthe active agent of action while using the Passive Voice in newspaperheadlines, using suppositions and insinuations, words with additionalconnotations, such as metaphors or other linguistic means. Modality is alsoused as a means of authors’ manipulation by readers’ attention. Focusing onthe language and other elements of discursive practice, experts in criticaldiscourse analysis try to find out the ways that authors use to manipulatereaders’ attention. It helps achieve objective highlighting real events andpreserve genre peculiarities of the discourse in periodical press
В статье рассмотрены особенности критического анализа дискурса материалов прессы, включающего анализ самого текста, анализ дискурсивных практик, при помощи которых он создается и воспроизводится, а также – социального контекста, в котором он рассматривается. Описаны основные этапы критического дискурса материалов прессы. Установлены способы и приемы, используемые авторами для манипуляций мнением читателя: более одного стиля дискурса в тексте, «форматирование» текста, предположения, инсинуации, модальность текста У статті розглянуто особливості критичного аналізу дискурсу матеріалів преси, який поєднує аналіз самого тексту, аналіз дискурсивних практик, за допомогою яких створюється й відтворюється цей текст; а також – соціального контексту, в якому розглядається текст. Висвітлено основні етапи критичного аналізу дискурсу матеріалів преси. Установлено засоби й прийоми, які використовують автори для маніпуляції думкою читача, а саме: більшніж один стиль дискурсу в тексті, «форматування» тексту, припущення, інсинуації, модальність тексту |
