| Description |
The article deals with one of the less studied problems of literary criticism - the evolution of elegy genre in Ukrainian literature. The main criterion of lyric poems relating to elegy genre is a context and a melancholy key - basic signs of the elegy poem. Having considered a number of well-known and less-known historical works, and having determined that long-suffering life of the Ukrainian people was a powerful source of the Ukrainian elegy, the author retraces formation and genre peculiarities of the historical elegy which is one of the base-style varieties of the ancient Ukrainian elegy.
