The health of the population of Ukraine is complicated by the spread of HIV / AIDS , tuberculosis, cancer, rising levels of childhooddisability. These patients in terminal stages of their pathology need palliative care, which often requires from medical personnel toresolve physical, psychological and spiritual problems of the patient, using a bioethical approach. In literature, there is very littledata on the emotional intelligence of students who study medicine. However, reform of the modern healthcare industry puts highdemands on the professional competence of future specialists. The aim was to investigate the psychological qualities of medicalstudents working as volunteers in medicine, particularly their empathic abilities, state of emotional intelligence, which is the basisof effective communication in medical practice. Стан здоров’я населення України ускладнюється поширенням ВІЛ/СНІДу, туберкульозу, онкозахворювань [1], зростанням рівня дитячої інвалідності [2]. Всі ці стани та захворювання на термінальних стадіях потребують надання паліативної допомоги, яка часто вимагає від медичного персоналу зваженого вирішення неоднозначних фізичних, психологічних та духовних проблем хворого, і потребує біоетичного підходу. В літературі обмаль даних про стан емоційного інтелекту студентів, які вивчають медицину. Водночас, реформування сучасної медичної галузі ставить високі вимоги до професійних компетенцій майбутніх фахівців. Метою роботи було дослідити психологічні якості студентів медичних навчальних закладів, які залучені до волонтерської діяльності, зокрема емпатичні здібності, стан емоційного інтелекту, що є підгрунтям ефективного спілкування у медичній практиці.
