У статті проаналізовано прагматичні смисли метафоричних висловлень у текстах Різдвяних послань глав християнських церков з метою виявити та порівняти комунікативні наміри мовців, а також особливості структурування, оцінки та пояснення дійсності різними християнськими гілками. (The article seeks to understand recent pragmatic discussions in metaphor research in the context of religious discourse studies. In particular, it focuses upon the analysis of metaphor functioning in the texts of Christmas greetings of the Heads of Christian churches, specifically, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Kyiv Patriarchate), the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, the Roman Catholic Church, the Anglican Church and the Russian Orthodox Church. Metaphor is viewed as a pragmatically significant text content component. It is a source of implicit information which can be elicited from the context and general conditions of effective communication, taking into account rules and maxims of communication. Implicature of metaphoric utterances lies in the use of definite nominal means with reference to other referents. On the mental level such nominal transference is preceded by convergence of the features of two concepts. Pragmatic interpretation of metaphoric utterances is based on the literal explicit meanings of the utterances, which evoke particular associations. Therefore, metaphor can be intentionally employed in religious discourse in order to lead addressee to the desired conclusions, form not only specific religious outlook, but in general affect perception of reality and behavior of people. The contrastive study of metaphor use in the texts of Christmas greetings of the Heads of Christian churches enables identifying and comparing communicative intentions of the speakers and sheds light upon the distinctive features of structuring, evaluation and interpretation of reality by the Christian communities.) |
