Постановка й обґрунтування актуальності проблеми. Актуальність цієї проблеми полягає у тому, що її вивчення дає змогу реконструювати деякі аспекти розвитку українського національно-визвольного руху на теренах Австро-Угорщини, а також відтворити малодосліджені сторінки формування українських військових частин та з’єднань, вояки яких взяли діяльну участь у боротьбі за державне самоствердження України у 1919–1920 рр.
This article examines some aspects of national-patriotic activities of the Ukrainian captive officers in the camp Josefstadt (Austria-Hungary) in the first half of 1918, proves that the mentioned camp successfully fulfills its mission towards rallying patriotic Ukrainians who, after their coming to the camp, fall into the whirlpool of the Ukrainian life and had the opportunity to express their national “Self”. All the necessary conditions were satisfied in this way — The Union for the Liberation of Ukraine provided Ukrainian literature and magazines, national organizations were involved in the following activity, summaries of the various fields of Ukrainian studies were organised, Ukrainian theatre, library etc. operated. At the same time, not all Ukrainian officers were driven by a sincere desire to join the ranks of the UNR (some of them tried to just get free of captivity and get home faster), but the majority was aware of their patriotic duty to protect the UNR from the Bolshevik invasion. In total, more than 100 Ukrainian officers arrived in the camp, and since February 1918 they were sent to Volodymyr-Volynsky to replace the senior positions in the division. Although their formation was judged by the uneasy fate, most of them took an active part in the Struggle for National Indepenence of Ukraine in 1917-1920s. |
