The analysis of scientific ideas of S. A. Podolinsky, V. I. Vernadsky and some of their followers allowed to draw a conclusion that these ideas today have become a basis of the sustainable development concept. At the UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio-de-Janeiro (1992) sustainable development was proclaimed as a new model of 21 century civilization. In the report the main statements of the sustainable development concept and their practical implementation in the process of the development of national strategy of sustainable development of Belarus are analyzed.
