Description The article is devoted to some threats associated with introduction of theology to the educational system. If spiritual institutions have right to award degrees and academic titles which are equivalent to state-recognized, this may lead to erosion of academic standards, and also to clericalization. Although some theological studies meet the requirements of scientific research, some other perform rather propaganda function, not research one. This situation gives grounds to suspicion of theological works being biased, this suspicion can be extended even for works that are made at the appropriate academic level. In such circumstances it would be appropriate to associate the academic study of religion only with speciality, known in Ukrainian as «religieznavstvo» (academic study of religion), and recognize academic degrees and academic titles in the field of the study of religion only in this specialty. The theological educational institution should be considered primarily as a church, not only the educational structure. If some of these institutions provide research at an appropriate level, these institutions can receive state-recognized accreditation of specialty «religieznavstvo», but only if they follow the principle of detachment from any confession. This would make possible the recognition of those studies within theology that meet scientific standards, and at the same time would secure educational system from possible threats of recognizing at the state level scientific degrees and academic titles awarded by institutions whose purpose is primarily religious propaganda, not science research. It can also be helpful in reducing the threat of clericalization, which can be increased in the case of introduction of theology in the educational system. Moreover, in a situation where a post-Soviet humanities have not yet overcome the consequences of previous style of indoctrination, it would be appropriate now to avoid any indoctrination, including the notions, that can be related with theology.
Включение в перечень специальностей богословия как отдельной специальности создает ряд проблем, которые касаются соблюдения принципов светского государства, а также научных стандартов. В связи с конфессиональным характером богословия существует угроза, что введение богословия может способствовать клерикализации. Кроме того, возникает вопрос соотношения богословия и религиоведения в образовательной системе.
