In the sixteenth century, the Kievan metropolitanate there was a crisis involving the Orthodox ministry. In the seventeenth century, the Orthodox clergy elites have taken debate over responsible priesthood and number of educational and publishing activities for the reconstruction the ethos of the Orthodox pastor. The contemporary reflection on the dignity and responsibility of priests to be found among others in the forewords to the liturgical books and pastoral support printed in the Kyivan Lavra. However, idealized images of the priest are present in the literature occasional. Among the often taken by the Orthodox priests of problems was the question of education, moral and personal suitability as a priest, preacher, minister of the sacraments, and a guide and protector of the flock entrusted to him. Also reminded of the appointment is necessary for the exercise of pastoral ministry and the need to bring up worthy successors.
