Dissertation for a Candidate Degree in Philology; Specialty : 10.01.01 – Ukrainian Literature. – National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Kyiv, 2016. The thesis deals with the investigation of urban space in modern Ukrainian prose, interpretation of the problems of historical memory, ideas of Europeanism etc. In the thesis the basic theoretical concepts are examined, the connection of literary analysis with anthropology, history, psychology, sociology are shown. The direction on active urbanization in Ukrainian literature most obvious is connected with the beginning of the twentieth century. The architectural space of modern literature «builds» by comparison the external / internal space or in horizontal / vertical section that promotes the actualization of cultural past. The rethinking of historical narrative and the search of cultural identity present the understanding of historical memory and its influence on the formation of national consciousness. O. Zabuzhko, Yu. Vynnychuk, Yu. Andrukhovych interpret the historical memory with recreating the evolutional process of cultural trends in urban space. In modern prose the toposes of small country, home, lived-space vividly actualized. It is important that these toposes have great cultural and historical significance. The house has its own history, biography, in the frequency often architectural, includes in the expanse of the era and gets the symbolic time. It becomes the focus of memory. It is attached to the complicated context of the city's history, its mythology. The buildings, monuments, libraries, archives and museums are defined as hoarders and representants of memory. With the impetuous development of urbanization opposition center / province is undergoing the major transformations. The apology of province, small town and small country are distinctive trend in recent decades. The provincial space in V. Shevchuk is revealed through the prism of different images, structures, things. The bridge is the symbol of a carefree childhood. «Own» and «other’s» are neatly delimited in the street space, but the street gets the central place in the neighborhood, it keeps the memory of its inhabitants; stone in wayside is the perpetuation of information and people in general; neighborhood is the idyllic valley near a river. The author gives the particular importance to the image of the house. Among the privileged characters of modern prose can be called a collector, when the collecting of goods, antiques, herbaria, bibliophily or the metaphors of events’ collecting, experiences and, after all, «collecting of themselves» are in question. The ranges equip the space of museum, library, stores of antiques, botanical garden, representing the cultural reconstruction. In this aspect the important features of structured space is mystification and extravagancy. The modern prose pays special attention to actualization of non-national environment. In this connection the model of «different» space are produced. In the work of Ukrainian writers the different space is focused on the Western world and various concepts of Europeanism. The analysis of such categories, as «culture», «world city», «time», «provincialism», gives the clear adduction about urban space. The European space in the contemporary prose is a postmodern cultural center and container for homeless immigrants, area of freedom and new opportunities. The urbanism of modern prose is one of its essential characteristics. The urban space is interpreted as a kind of reservoir of cultural memory. The architecture is comprehended as the book, which is written in stone as evidence of the past. The buildings fit into some local histories. The model of remembrance is related with urbanism and should be restored, know the codes and find the keys. The collections, especially the library, are defined as the hoarders and bearers of memory. The gathering and collection can be positioned differently on private and public space. The spatial organization of urban prose establishes and emphasizes the notions of openness, culture’s development, importance of understanding with others, tolerance and respect for different traditions. Дисертація присвячена дослідженню урбаністичного простору в сучасній українській прозі, інтерпретації проблем історичної пам’яті, впливу урбаністичної глобалізації на людину, провінційності як ідилії тощо. У трьох розділах дисертації розглянуто теоретико-методологічне зацікавлення міським простором, показано його тісний зв’язок із антропологією, історією, психологією, соціологією. Урбанізм сучасної прози є одною з її суттєвих характеристик. Міський простір інтерпретується як своєрідний резервуар культурної пам’яті. Архітектура прочитується як книга, записана в камені, як свідчення минулого. Споруди вписуються в певні локальні історії. З урбанізмом пов’язана модель спогаду, який треба відреставрувати, пізнати коди, підшукати ключі. Нагромаджувачами і носіями пам’яті представлено колекції, насамперед книгозбірні. Колекціонерство і колекція можуть по-різному позиціонуватися щодо приватного та публічного простору. Просторова організація урбаністичної прози утверджує й акцентує саме поняття відкритості, освоєння культури, важливості порозуміння з іншим, толерантності і поваги до різних традицій. |
