Розглянуто поняття “п’ятого фасаду” міста як складової загальної міської культури і побуту. Реконструкція горищних просторів дає можливість розв’язати багато актуальних проблем для міста і мешканців, але механізми, які повинні сприяти цьому не дають ефективних результатів впродовж багатьох років. Roofs are considered to be the fifth fasade of the town. Phenomenon of Lviv historical architecture lies in the uniqueness of its roof/. Nowadays technical condition of the majority of roofs is unsatisfactory. Reconstruction of attics makes it possible to place there dwellings, artists’ studios, offices. Nevertheless it is very problematic to give some budget funds for it now, the most real way is to equip attics at the expense of private funds or investors – juridical persons. Privatization of municipal property has touched the attics as well. But this process is not an easy one. The author analyses the reasons retarding the processes of privatization of attics and recommends the ways of their use according to the present-day rules and acts. The fifth fasade of Lviv is waiting for its researchers and pioneers. Roofs renewing opens new additional areas of activity for restoration workers and for Lviv dwellers.
