Description |
The article made an analysis of the fundamental ideas of the main branches of Indian philosophy – Vedanta, especially its chief representatives of Shankara and Ramanuja. The Vedanta thinkers (philosophers) saw themselves as interpreters of Hindu Scriptures – the Vedas. Unlike other areas of Hindu thought, Vedantists have managed to build up deep in its meaning a system of philosophy, which opened a wide field for thought. The main theme of philosophical discussions of philosophers of Vedanta was the essence of the world. Shankara defended the conviction that the world is only an illusion, and not really exists. Ramanuja was convinced that the world is created and really exists, but it is part of God. Despite the differences between the main representatives of Vedanta, their main goal was the rational justification of absolute monism.
