Methodological approaches of members of social economic thought in Ukraine at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries have much in common with traditional institutionalism, but are not well studied in the plane of institutional analysis. The article reveals the influence of neoclassical methodology on improvement in research methods of Ukrainian scientists in institutional environment of economic life. The emphasis is placed on important evolutionary aspects in theoretical heritage of the historical school adherent V.Levytskyi, representative of pluralist sociology M.Kovalevskyi, ?legal Marxist? M.Tugan-Baranovskyi in the plane of their methodological approaches transformation. In the plane of clarifying the ideas of institutionalism of the social direction representatives, the emphasis is made on the impact of Methodenstreit on V.Levytskyi?s research and methodology relationship of the scientist with O.Cont and J.S. Mill; M.Kovalevskyi?s establishment of demographic factor as a criterion of economic development periodization and the importance of analyzing the formal and informal institutions to improve economic public policy; aspiration of M.Tugan-Baranovskyi to expand neoclassical understanding of the economic theory subject in the created synthetic theory of value involving institutional components into it. Methodological achievements of the ?marginal revolution? promoted the review of methodological approaches of representatives of a social trend in economic thought of Ukraine in late XIX - early XX century. In particular, V.Levitskyi wanted to synthesize the theoretical conclusions of the neoclassical doctrine with conceptual approach of the German historical school based on the concept of social statics and dynamics. M.Kovalevskyi avoided deductive generalizations, using historical and comparative method which bound him with representatives of the German historical school and traditional institutionalism. Under the influence of neoclassics? achievements he directed his analysis from sociology to economics, which is fully consistent with the methodological foundations of early institutionalism. Tugan-Baranovskyi under the influence of neoclassics understood the limitations of the Marxism theoretical foundations and its practical function. The neoclassical theory of marginal utility led the scientist?s attempts to adapt Marxism to conditions of a neoclassical methodology by creating a synthetic theory of value. Evolutionary and organic components of methodology of social direction representatives and anthropocentrism became an important basis for the institutional analysis of economic phenomena and processes. Noteworthy is stating by V.Levitskyi and M.Kovalevskyi the problem of implementing institutions and their compliance with social and economic structure of society. |
