The analysis of non-stationary cutting processes showed expediency of using multistage face mills for shaping of part flat surfaces. To ensure the required quality parameters of machining surface, the use face mills with variable trajectory of movement of cutting knives cutters was suggested. The influence of geometrical parameters of cutting parts of face mills and cutting conditions on the quality of the machining surfaces was experimentally investigated. To improve the quality of surface we suggested to use knives with radius cutting edge. Rational values of tilt angles of cutting edges of the blades of face mills were obtained. Rational modes of cutting parameters necessary for quality machining of cast iron were recommended. Stable surface roughness along the part width by using a linear movement trajectory of cutting element was experimentally obtained. The provision of the necessary microgeometry of machining surface improves the operating properties of machine parts, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, hardness.
