Description Approaches to the optimal design of cavity aperture microwave sensors for the investigation and testing of physical properties of small-size objects are substantiated. The criteria for optimality include the external placement of the object, required sensitivity and measurement range of dielectric parameters (ε and tanδ), and exclusion or suppression of mechanical factors influence.
Theoretical dependences of the output measuring signals of the resonator converter on the aperture geometry are presented, accompanied by estimates of its metrological properties. The expediency of formation of combined measuring signals possessing properties of invariance to a number of disturbing factors is shown.
Theoretical predictions, including the invariance of the measurements of tanδ to the gap between the sensor probe and the object were confirmed, using the created experimental setup. The principle of its functioning ensures the creation of small-size sensors with external access to an object of arbitrary shape and size.
