Description The object of the research was a study of the epidemiological evidence of multiple anomalies in newborns and fetuses of the Chernivtsi region.
Newborns and fetuses with multiple defects served as the material for this particular research, their mothers living constantly in the Chernivtsi region. Studies of multiple congenital developmental defects (MCDDs) were carried out on the base of the Medicogenetical Centre of the Chernivtsi Regional Diagnostic Centre. 51129 newborns were involved by monitoring, multiple anomalies having been detected in 134 (7,54%) cases Prenatal ultrasound screening has revealed 54 fetuses with MCDDs. The authors have studied the disease incidence and the dynamics of the prevalence of the congenital malformations in the Chernivtsi region over the period from 2004 till 2008. Multiple congenital malformations rank fourth as far as prevalence is concerned (2,6 ‰) in neonates. Employing prenatal diagnostics, it was found out that fetuses with MCDDs prevailed, they occurred in women, living in the foothill districts — 28,0% of the cases, and in fetuses of the male gender (64.8%). A combination of defects of the musculoskeletal system with defects of the nervous system has been mainly disclosed. The defects of the nervous system, forming part of multiple malformations, occurred in 81,5% that may serve as a ground for bringing up-to-date the system of primary prophylaxis of multiple anomalies.
