У статті досліджується національно-маркована лексика британського та американського варіантів англійської мови. Такі лексичні одиниці містять національно-культурний компонент в своїй семантичній структурі. В ході дослідження виділені основні групи лексики, які найбільш яскраво відображають національну своєрідність культури. За допомогою корпусів англійської мови виявлені сфери найбільшої та найменшої концентрації національно забарвлених лексичних одиниць у британському та американському варіантах сучасної англійської мови.
В статье исследуется национально-маркированная лексика британского и американского вариантов английского языка. Такие лексические единицы содержат национально-культурный компонент в своей семантической структуре. В ходе исследования выделены основные группы лексики, которые наиболее ярко отображают национальную своеобразность культуры. С помощью корпусов английского языка выявлены сферы наибольшей и наименьшей концентрации национально окрашенных лексических единиц в британском и американском вариантах современного английского языка. Nationally marked vocabulary of the British and American variants of English is investigated in the article. The relevance of the study is determined by the growing interest to the interconnection of language and culture. There are many terms to denote nationally marked vocabulary. However, common feature for all of those terms is that such vocabulary contains special national-cultural component in their semantic structure. This component carries some specific national or cultural information, which can usually be known to native speakers and cannot be distinguished by non-native speakers. This specific cultural information can be found only in special dictionaries, which provide detailed explanation of extralinguistic information available in nationally marked vocabulary. In any language, there are certain layers or groups of vocabulary that reflect national culture peculiarities such as nature and geographic environment, culture, polit-ical structure of society, social and political life, way of life, customs and traditions etc. Main groups of nationally marked vocabulary are identified in the article; these are groups to reflect peculiarities of social and political life, way of life, and peculiarities of geographic environment. The largest group in British English is the group, which represents peculiarities of social and political life, while in American English this is the group, which shows peculiarities of the way of life. Both for British and American English the smallest group is the group denoting peculiarities of geographic environment. Moreover, the areas o f the greatest and lowest concentration of nationally-hued vocabulary in contemporary British and American English are defined. Using the corpora of the English language it was established that newspaper language is the area of the greatest concentration of nationally marked vocabulary both for British and American English; the lowest concentration of nationally-hued vocabulary is observed in the academic language and the language o f magazines for British English and in fiction for American English. |
